THCA vs dispensary weed: what you’re actually buying
THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is the natural acid form of THC found in raw cannabis. When it’s heated by smoking, vaping or baking, it converts to delta-9 THC. That process is called decarboxylation.
The 2018 Farm Bill defined hemp as cannabis with “a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis” [1]. The definition named delta-9 THC specifically, and high-THCA flower has been sold as hemp under it.
Federal hemp testing rules use a “total THC” number that counts THCA after heating: total THC = delta-9 THC + (THCA × 0.877) [2]. For example, Space Candy at 35% THCA works out to roughly 30.7% potential THC before adding any delta-9. That’s why THCA flower and dispensary flower can look similar on a lab report.

On drug tests
Standard drug tests look for THC metabolites. THCA turns into THC when heated, so you should assume THCA products can cause a positive result. We can’t promise any product will pass a test.

Hemp and mushroom alternatives, explained
These are the “alternatives” on this list: products that aren’t dispensary cannabis or psilocybin mushrooms. Here’s what they are, in plain terms, with no promises about how they’ll feel.
Amanita muscaria (fly agaric)
The red-and-white mushroom. Its main active compounds are muscimol and ibotenic acid, which are completely different from psilocybin, a Schedule I controlled substance [4]. Amanita muscaria and muscimol are not on the federal schedules, but Louisiana bans amanita products [7], so we don’t ship them there.
The FDA says Amanita muscaria and its compounds are not authorized as ingredients in conventional food, and recommends that people avoid eating foods that contain them [5]. The CDC has also reported illnesses linked to mushroom edibles with ingredients that weren’t on the label [6]. That’s why the lab report matters: buy amanita only with a COA that shows the muscimol number.

What changes after December 2026
In November 2025, Congress changed the federal definition of hemp so that it counts total THC, including THCA, and it excludes finished products with more than 0.4mg of total THC per container [3]. A later law moved most of the change to December 11, 2026 [3]. Because of that, our last day to order THC products, including THCA flower, hash, vapes and delta-9 gummies, is December 9, 2026.
Utoya isn’t going anywhere. Amanita, mushroom gummies and chocolate, CBD and more stay on the site. This Black Friday is the last big sale on our THC lineup, which is why we put it at 25% off. We’re a store, not lawyers, and nothing here is legal advice.
How to spot a real Black Friday deal
- Compare price per gram or per mg, not the sticker. A $9.74 pre-roll and a $149.25 ounce are very different deals. Our table does the math for you.
- Look for a lab report. A COA should show the cannabinoid numbers and come from a third-party lab. No COA, no deal.
- Watch for fake “was” prices. A huge crossed-out price that the product never actually sold for isn’t a discount.
- Check stacking rules. Many sites exclude sale items. BLKFRI25 doesn’t.
- Factor in shipping. For example, on a $45 order, adding a $9.74 pre-roll gets you over $50 for free shipping, which can be worth more than the pre-roll costs.
- Check your state first. A deal you can’t get shipped isn’t a deal.

Is THCA the same as weed?
THCA is a compound found in cannabis. It becomes delta-9 THC when heated. The difference is mostly legal: hemp-derived THCA flower has been sold under the federal hemp definition, while dispensary cannabis is regulated by state marijuana laws. See THCA vs dispensary weed.
Does THCA show up on a drug test?
Assume it can. THCA converts to THC when heated, and drug tests look for THC metabolites. We can’t promise any product will pass a test.
